Something to drop before going out tonight. A bit more of a personal connection this one, after the Mixer For Hire effort that was the crunk mix.

A 100% Aussie effort apart from an NZ ring in (What would an Australian mix be without one?

Walking from the train down the Devonshire Street tunnel is part of my life. Not a special part, not the worst part, but a part of my daily routine. At Central Station I walk from the train, head through the ticket gates at the southern end of the station (sometimes even with a valid ticket) and veer right - just like a few thousand other people every day.

Hilltop Hoods - All Stations
"On the way home . . ."
Just before you get to the actual tunnel there are a couple of junk food shops. "The Best Bacon and Eggs in Sydney," one of the shops boasts - inaccurately.

You can't get scallops though. You need to go to the other side of the station for that.

"Trusted trains departed . . ."
I find myself often walking against the tide. As I walk west though the tunnel, the masses are going east and vice versa. They head towards me like a wave - A surge flowing through an old vein.

What are they thinking? Some are nervous; some will be famous for repeating themselves. Some are second-guessing your every move, some will never learn, and some just need to get over it.

Once you reach the west-end of the tunnel you reach Henry Deane Plaza where there is a bar. You see people congregating there on a Friday afternoon getting an early start on their Friday night. The mood is relaxed and it a great temptation to swing over there.

If you make it past the bar you are at UTS and the Tech. Sydney University is also not too far away down the road. That means that there are lots of students about.
Where there are students there are campaigners and protesters. What are they protesting today?

The beggars, blind buskers, beat boxers and bastards who are in my way - along with everyone else - make up what the tunnel is to me. Even when the tunnel is empty all these memories are still with me.

The tunnel goes underneath Broadway. As the night becomes later, the revheads come out to fill this street.

Since stumbling across the 'Respect Overdue' compilation that Creative Vibes put out some years ago, I have been hot on the trail of rare and interesting funky music recorded in Australia, my own backyard. The following mix is a testament to my love of local flavours, and a bit of a poke at people who don't think Aussies can be funky. This mix includes some of my favourites, some of my discoveries, and a couple of very, very rare numbers. I wanted to make it seamless, but time was a factor in putting this together. RHYME VANDALS: Idiot Proof

Okay, I've finished part 1 of my 2 part graffiti focused mixes. Took a lot of research & persistance so hopefully it goes down well. This one is a mix of US, English, Swedish, Norwegian & Australian tracks. I added bits of dialogue, used some effects & created a few edits, nothing too fancy schmancy, so it should flow okay. Part 2 should be just as solid. I could have made 3 x 60min mixes, but instead I cut it down to 2 x 70min mixes, so as not to force myself to include some 2nd rate tracks. I also wanted to use only contemporary songs. Rhymesayers member DJ Jay Bird already has a mix called Aerosolics that used a lot of the classics, so I went deeper. Love the art design. Whoever is doing it is tickling my armpits. Super stuff.
Just look at the dope mixes on here. Its all classic rare disco not the type of music your auntie would request at the next wedding dance. The Scots are definitely making power moves with their tastes. The only downfall is that some are incorrectly labelled (ie The Paul Phillips one 'Soulful Grooves' appears as the 'Groot Mix' by Terry Mullan in iTunes?) & they are at a sucky 128kbps bit rate or even way lower. They may be saving on bandwith, but we lose out on dynamics. I recently purged every MP3 file I had under 192kbps. We had a falling out over frequencies. I just couldn't keep up my facade of a relationship with those type of bit rates. Nice people, but really. They weren't giving me what I needed. Oof!

Real disco shit to get your hustle on.
The mixes are dope, but aaargghh! 80kps sounds like I have my head in an empty watertank made of cotton.

Arabian/Middle Eastern music is awesome & it sounds even better when you add some beats or mix it up with other genres. I especially like the electronic dub feel or the Algerian influenced French Hip Hop or the contemporary exotica funk styles that incorporate it into their rhythms. This selection is just a taste of some cross genres meshing it all up into something unique. I wish I had more of it, but it's not always easy to find. And it's a strictly Arabic set, no Indian or sub-continent selections, though not all are productions from the Arabic region. - Idiot Proof.

A friend of mine was lamenting the fact that he doesn't like Jazz music. At all. He mentioned Dixieland. Hmmn, I had to concur. It's not something I have any affinity towards at all either. I also mentioned that Free Jazz was a style that I'm not particulary attracted to in the slightest. Nor that Jazz lite cafe shit they play in shopping centres & the like. I was brought up with hip hop & discovered Jazz through that. I asked him... 'You like A Tribe Called Quest yeah?' Naturally he said yes, but mentioned that amongst the beats, a jazz loop here & there is fine, but an actual jazz track makes him turn it off straight away.

Scottish based Beatonic have a few nice looking mixes upped at their site here, but I found this mix on Boogieburg. Great taste in beats if you like the jazzy funky beaty latiny worldy genre mix-ups. A bit of everything, but at a quick glance I would most likely purchase at least 90% of what I see in their mixes & charts. So I approve wholeheartedly.

D.E.K has been infatuated by the art of spinning records since the mid-80's halcyon days of roller disco in his hometown of Glasgow, UK. Having studied mixtapes from every genre over the years he decided to take the plunge and buy a set of 1200s to see if he could match up to the DJs he spent a huge part of his days listening to. Fast forward a few years and a coupla thousand quid on vinyl purchases, D.E.K decides to put his skills to the test by submitting a mix of his now trademark FazzJunkLatin grooves to iDJ Magazines Raw-Talent contest. No one was more suprised than him when he discovered he had scooped top prize. Things took a while to get moving after that. Mixes continued to be churned out, websites were constructed and contacts made. Warm-up slots for Paul Murphy, Seiji, Benji B, Jazztronic, Recloose and Q-Burns followed and these have added to his own increasingly popular Beatonic events which now spring up across Glasgow and are now synonymous with all things jazzy.

Another instrumental beats mix. Water Cyborgs was a test, this is the next phase. Took me a day to figure out. Grabbing more movie dialogue, doing some nifty editing & adding effects... too tired after making mix & finishing at 4:30am that I just whipped up a simple cover by using the artwork from cult director Jack Hill's cheerleading film. Yep, I snatched some dialogue from the crystal clear DVD edition of his 70s non exploitation flick to start off the mix. WATER CYBORGS: Idiot Proof

Okay this was an experimentation with the Mac's Garageband V.1. Having never even had a look at it on my Mac, someone recommended it as a quick way to overlay dialogue to a mix. So I did made a mix using strictly MP3's from CDs & then ripped some dialogue from some obscure films on DVD, as well as adding a few bits & bobs from the Net, then edited some of beats & pieced it all together. It was supposed to be 60mins, but I couldn't get Garageband to go past 40mins. Also whipped up a quick cover using some screen captures from Sonny Chiba's Terror Beneath the Sea DVD (I used some dialogue for the intro).

This is my first non-turntable mix. I think it worked out okay. Just instrumental hip hop beats type of deal. Hopefully it sounds tight & professional. Enjoy.

This mix is a rough history of hip-hop showing how hip-hop has changed over the years. I stopped at 60 minutes so that the mix wouldn’t be too long. Hopefully I’ll have time to do a Part 2. It's not as good as I would have liked, but I don't do mixes so I'm experimenting.

The mix was an experiment in using Apple GarageBand 3.1 for creating a mix. I used a PowerBook G4 to do it. Each song isn’t optimized so the volumes are all over the place. Next time I’ll use another app to optimize the songs before bringing them into Garage Band. Enjoy!

This friggin' Scotsman Lord Cancer Scabies is barking. Found his mix on Vinyl Vulture. I joined the 2 parts together for ease of use. Its an essential mix & one of the most enjoyable I've heard in recent times. Complete with loopy Charles Manson dialogue throughout. Better than it sounds. Just look at the tunes he managed to whack in there within two 15 min mixes. He's got some tunes up on his MySpace page as well.

This is what I regard as a true hip hop mix. Some nifty scratching, a few juggles & loads of not so obvious breaks with plenty of great dialogue to glue it altogether.

It features all your old faves – Peanut Butter Wolf, Dudley Perkins, Lootpack, Planet Asia, Kazi, Medaphoar, Lord Quas, Captain Funkaho and Yesterday’s New Quintet.
I recommend it if only for the dope radio show freestyle from Madlib, Wildchild and DJ Romes rockin some rhymes over Slum Village’s “Players” instrumental and more. LOOP DIGGA FOR REAL: Lancelot Link

I remembered I had this mix somewhere on my PC that I put together a couple of years ago whilst going through a major Madlib jones. I decided to pull together some of his rarer cuts and some remixes. In addition I made a bunch of loops and sequences between the tracks to give it a bit of a head spin. I put it up on soulseek without any fanfare or telling anyone, and pretty soon dudes were bitin at the mix. I even saw it on a website as an official Madlib cd on some dude’s swap list. I guess that was a compliment, but I hadda laugh at the absurdity of it.

It finally came full circle one day when a year or so after I made it, I was at a mates house and he told me to “check out this great Madlib mix”. He hit play on the cd and I started laughing. It was the mix of course, taking the six degrees of separation right back to me. Anyhoo, I still think it’s one of my fave mixes that I’ve done, so I hope everybody enjoys it. It’s in 2 parts – Part one is 13 minutes and part two is 68 mins. Don’t ask me why, it’s just how I did it. It’s kind of a big download, but it’s worth it (scout’s honour!)

I updated the cover tonight, ‘cos the old one had a shitty photoshop filter on it that I must have thought looked real dope at the time. Haha.

Ok here's mine. I made it the other day but was using the world's most expensive net connection and zshare & usendit both dropped out prior to completing the upload. luckily the wireless connection at hong kong airport is more reliable!

It's not hip hop - more electronica from 91-98 or so (you'll probably recognise them). There's a couple of hip hop-ish tracks (though some might debate this . I didn't have mixing software or use my decks/cds/mixer so it's done on the computer and has fades/cuts only, but u get the idea.

also, I don't have software to add text to this image on this pc yet, so the mix is called Holidays & Hartley Town as it reminds me of memories & being on holidays and going on nice drives in the country.

Here is one I made for a Christmas pressie for friends and fam. I'll definitely do another for this thread over the easter break but i thought why not UL this one too.

Has some funk, some hip hop, some instro's, oh and only one aussie track (which is an older one of mine that needs polishing. I had to do it in chunks then mix the chunks together on my mac. No super rare stuff if you're a hardcore digger.

It's half mixed on decks and half mixed using Live (some of the tracks sound a bit wobbly, that is the sofware trying to time stretch them, i forgot to turn the function off, i did'nt need it on as the tracks were already mixed by that stage.

I have two things i want to share. When I came home I went through the records which my grandmother gave me and made a little mix. It is just 15 min long though, but comes in full effect with hits from the black forest (a place in germany)...haha.
