ANCHORMIX RADIO V.3: Scott Allen

I've had this mix on constant rotation. It veers more towards the very lazy dub reggae vibe, with not much frantic vocal behaviour, but loads of huge warm basslines & plenty of atmospheric space echo shenanigans. If you want summer to come back, then download this. Sparse & compelling. Found on the mostly DnB oriented Anchormix blog.

Absolutely incredible mix of out-there psych rock, folk, funk, Brazilian, French, even some new tracks that fit in perfectly. A definite highlight & brilliantly put together. I have no idea who put this together. Taken from the Vinyl Vulture site where no-one had commented on it. It deserves exposure.

HIPPIES SMELL: Cancer Scabies

9REWIND
This friggin' Scotsman Lord Cancer Scabies is barking. Found his mix on Vinyl Vulture. I joined the 2 parts together for ease of use. Its an essential mix & one of the most enjoyable I've heard in recent times. Complete with loopy Charles Manson dialogue throughout. Better than it sounds. Just look at the tunes he managed to whack in there within two 15 min mixes. He's got some tunes up on his MySpace page as well.

This is what I regard as a true hip hop mix. Some nifty scratching, a few juggles & loads of not so obvious breaks with plenty of great dialogue to glue it altogether.

That chimpanzee Lance Link has been let out of his cage for another attempt at a mix with all hairy arms a' blazin'. It's another blinding selection of some never heard before tunes fueled by a few banana shaked beverages I'm sure. MAMBAJAHAMBO!: DJ O-Nice

Another SoulStrut kidnapping. Sometimes the mixes on the forum get lost, ignored or bypassed, when they really should be heard by as many as people as possible. Despite the common perception, there are some good people on SS with excellent taste in music. Here's another one of them.

"It's been a long time since I put up a mix, and was feeling surly this weekend so a new one done got done. I brings you Mambajahambo!, random ish for random people." - DJ O-Nice aka Dig This.

BUHBOMP: Ross Hogg

EPISODE 02 --=(] buhbOmp radio [)=-- features wide variety of styles from hip-hop, dancehall, soca, broken beat, Miami/Atlanta bass, and much more ... all kinds of rump-shakers, brought to you by the buhbOmp crew: JD, Lil Tiger, Empanadamn, Elz, Cashless and friends.

The second episode is a monster all-remix affair masterly crafted by Texas-native and San Francisco party-rocker Ross Hogg aka Duppy Ranks, co-creater of the acclaimed Slump & Grind mix CDs. Every track on this 33-minute mix is Yay-related (think "R & Bay").

Here's a half-assed tracklisting.

Mary J "Be Happy" over Keak "T-Shirt, Blue Jeans & Nikes"
Marvin "Sexual Healing" over Keak "Yadadamean"
E-40 "Hope I Don't Go Back" over Craig David "7 Days"
Keak "Super Hyphie" over Gangstarr "Skillz"
San Quinn "Hell Yeah" over Justin Timberlake "Rock Your Body"
Dwele "I Love You" over San Quinn "Hell Yeah"
Tears for Fears "Shout" over T-Pain "I'm Sprung" (or, for the Bay, over J. Valentine "Go Dumb")
E-A Ski "Ride" over Mike Marshall* "Thinkin Bout U"
Mike Marshall "Thinkin Bout U" over Too $hort "Blow The Whistle"
Goapele "Got It" over The Team "It's Gettin' Hot"
Lil' Mo "Dem Boyz" (for Faux_Rillz) over Dope Game "Town Shit"
E-40 & Keak "Tell Me When To Go" over Mark Ronson "Ooowee"

*Mike Marshall, for those that don't know, was the lead singer for Timex Social Club. He also sang the hook on "I Got 5 On It" and has appeared alongside Turf Talk, San Quinn, 40, and lots of other Bay rappers. Dude is soooo ill.

GLASS HOUSES: Lancelot Link

Hey all. Here’s GLASS HOUSES, a mix of Stones Throw releases and guest spots etc... I had in the vaults from 2002.

It features all your old faves – Peanut Butter Wolf, Dudley Perkins, Lootpack, Planet Asia, Kazi, Medaphoar, Lord Quas, Captain Funkaho and Yesterday’s New Quintet.
I recommend it if only for the dope radio show freestyle from Madlib, Wildchild and DJ Romes rockin some rhymes over Slum Village’s “Players” instrumental and more. Some of the segue edits I made between the tracks I think were pilfered (read: stolen) from DJ Spinna’s “Strange Games and Things”, but most of them are my own productions. Enjoy.

Peace to Stones Throw – you’ll always have my respect.

LOOP DIGGA FOR REAL: Lancelot Link

I remembered I had this mix somewhere on my PC that I put together a couple of years ago whilst going through a major Madlib jones. I decided to pull together some of his rarer cuts and some remixes. In addition I made a bunch of loops and sequences between the tracks to give it a bit of a head spin. I put it up on soulseek without any fanfare or telling anyone, and pretty soon dudes were bitin at the mix. I even saw it on a website as an official Madlib cd on some dude’s swap list. I guess that was a compliment, but I hadda laugh at the absurdity of it.

It finally came full circle one day when a year or so after I made it, I was at a mates house and he told me to “check out this great Madlib mix”. He hit play on the cd and I started laughing. It was the mix of course, taking the six degrees of separation right back to me. Anyhoo, I still think it’s one of my fave mixes that I’ve done, so I hope everybody enjoys it. It’s in 2 parts – Part one is 13 minutes and part two is 68 mins. Don’t ask me why, it’s just how I did it. It’s kind of a big download, but it’s worth it (scout’s honour!)

I updated the cover tonight, ‘cos the old one had a shitty photoshop filter on it that I must have thought looked real dope at the time. Haha.
- Lance Link

PS – I got a Stones Throw mix I made somewhere as well. If anyone’s interested, I’ll throw that one up as well.

FANTASIES OF A MADMAN: NtN

Here it is, direct from the mind of a madman. A fastpaced intro sets the mood before it hits a robust Downsyde classic. Mr K-Lash is next off the mark with a short burst before Suffa calms us down again. Not for long though, as the madman gets angry and vents his feelings through Funkoars, Strut, and AOW. Again, J5 try to sooth this madman's mind, succeeding this time as he reflects over his life, before finishing with his ultimate fantasy.

Mixing is a little tacky, a few alright changeovers but a couple stand out like a raw thumb. All in the learning process. - NTN, Adelaide.
