Up-tempo party big band, exotica, kitsch, Latin, Euro funk. Some old & some new. An indication of what we will be playing at our upcoming party. No hip hop, but kooky A-Go Go type of styles. FEMME FATALES: Idiot Proof

No I have no idea what I just did with this one... I was on a tangent, then turned left, then right, then went & backtracked. On the way I bumped into a Mystic, drank with a Sufi, tripped over a Rabbi, punched a New Ager, tricked a Cleric, kissed a Psychic & fooled a Joker. On the journey I also dined with Jess Franco, Jon Stewart & Ed Wood over a meal of fried crickets & frog spawn. - Idiot Proof.

Oh & there's more guys than girls in this mix, so ignore the cover & title. I must've had too many musk sticks while making it. It was the artificial pink colouring that swayed my mind.

JAMAICAN PARKING: Dust for Eyes

I'm not completely happy with the sound of a couple of tracks - more a problem with the source material. A lot of it has a Jamaican feel to it - hence the title - yet about about half of it is actually South African.

Let us know what y'all think . . .

SUB ETHER WAVEBAND - Navyseals

Here's one I prepared earlier. probably took me a whole year off and on messing around with acid pro. I know parts of the tracklist probably look wak but theyre not. really. check it out if you like blends ("mashups"). There's a couple of original beats on there too. - Navyseals, South Aust.

This breaks the rules cause its only 45 minutes long but theres no filler (apart from the BS2000 track).

WHAT DOES THAT DO? - VOL 1: Nick Sweepah

THE SPIEL: given that Garageband only let me put 35 odd minutes into a mixdown its in 2 sides... (ha! just like a "real" "tape" !!) and the mix in the middle of the two is ... well its no worse than the rest of it really. aha. it consists of aussie hiphop, grime, crunk and southern rap shit, with a little baltimore, pop, rock and hardcore on it. wowzers! - Nick Sweepah, Melbourne.

SWINGING CHEERLEADERS: Idiot Proof

Another instrumental beats mix. Water Cyborgs was a test, this is the next phase. Took me a day to figure out. Grabbing more movie dialogue, doing some nifty editing & adding effects... too tired after making mix & finishing at 4:30am that I just whipped up a simple cover by using the artwork from cult director Jack Hill's cheerleading film. Yep, I snatched some dialogue from the crystal clear DVD edition of his 70s non exploitation flick to start off the mix. Hopefully you won't notice the hard work that went into this one. - Idiot Proof.

WATER CYBORGS: Idiot Proof

Okay this was an experimentation with the Mac's Garageband V.1. Having never even had a look at it on my Mac, someone recommended it as a quick way to overlay dialogue to a mix. So I did made a mix using strictly MP3's from CDs & then ripped some dialogue from some obscure films on DVD, as well as adding a few bits & bobs from the Net, then edited some of beats & pieced it all together. It was supposed to be 60mins, but I couldn't get Garageband to go past 40mins. Also whipped up a quick cover using some screen captures from Sonny Chiba's Terror Beneath the Sea DVD (I used some dialogue for the intro).

This is my first non-turntable mix. I think it worked out okay. Just instrumental hip hop beats type of deal. Hopefully it sounds tight & professional. Enjoy.
Let me know if I should try another one...

C-MON & KYPSKI - Mood Mode
CAGE - Subtle Art of the Break Up Song (inst)

STEALTH AMBIENT MIX: AliaK

Ok, here's the ambient mix - it's actually ambient + idm + some general chill tracks so as not to scare anyone too much. I'll have to find cover art and post the tracklisting later (it's on the other pc). not sure if it's suitable for the blog anyway, but if you're interested here's the link. - AliaK.

A ROUGH HIP-HOP CHRONOLOGY (Part 1): Marz aka Sp0radic

This mix is a rough history of hip-hop showing how hip-hop has changed over the years. I stopped at 60 minutes so that the mix wouldn’t be too long. Hopefully I’ll have time to do a Part 2. It's not as good as I would have liked, but I don't do mixes so I'm experimenting.

The mix was an experiment in using Apple GarageBand 3.1 for creating a mix. I used a PowerBook G4 to do it. Each song isn’t optimized so the volumes are all over the place. Next time I’ll use another app to optimize the songs before bringing them into Garage Band. Enjoy!
- Marz, Sydney.
